DBA "Doing Business As"

Registration is required by State Law and is done through the County Clerk's Office. The first step is to call the Clerk's Office to confirm that the business name you have selected is acceptable. The Clerk is authorized to reject any assumed name, which is likely to mislead the public, or is similar to other business names as to lead to confusion or deception. The law requires that a sole proprietor or co-partners file their business (other than the real name of the person) at the County Clerk's Office. The purpose of the law is to place on public record those person(s) conducting or transacting business under an assumed name. A DBA protects a business from possible name duplications by other businesses.

Applying for a Business Registration Certificate

  • Complete the Application for Business Registration (requires Acrobat Reader).
  • A Notary Public must notarize the application (Notary Publics can be found at banks, insurance companies, and at the Clerk's Office).
  • The Filing fee is $10, cash/check/money order/Visa or MasterCard are acceptable as payment, payable to:

Notice of Change of Place of Business
