Amber Reagan, County Clerk/Register of Deeds Office

Amber Reagan

The individual who nominated Amber wrote:

“Amber went above and beyond customer expectations today. A couple came in to pick up their marriage license for their wedding which was taking place later that evening. During the process of creating the marriage license there were program issues. Due to these technological difficulties, she was unable to complete their request. The couple could not legally be married without this document, therefore getting it to them was imperative. Amber sensed their panic and suggested the couple continue to finalize the wedding day errands they needed to tend to. She told them she would contact them when the program was fixed and their marriage license was ready to be picked up. After the program was fixed, Amber called the couple to let them know their license was printed and ready for them. Rather than inconveniencing the couple and making them come back in to pick the document up, Amber took her break time to personally deliver it to the bride who was still finalizing last minute details for the evening's ceremony. Amber truly saved the couples wedding day. Without the marriage license the couple would have been unable to get married that day. It is selfless acts of kindness, such as the one Amber exhibited, that depict the perfect example of the Ottawa Way!”

Number of Years Employed by Ottawa County:

18 years

The thing I like most about working for Ottawa County is:

The people I work with.

The hardest thing I have ever done:

Raising my children.

You would be surprised to learn that:

I enjoy working on cars in my spare time.

If you could have dinner with anyone dead or alive, who would you pick and why?

My Grandmother. I would love to talk to her about her journey to America and what it was like to start a new life in a new country without knowing anyone but your mother and father. I would love to know more about her childhood and family.

If you had to spend all of your vacations for the rest of your life in the same place, where would you go and why?

Alaska

If you could travel back in time to any certain era or event, when/where would you pick and why?

I would love to go back to my childhood when times were simpler, children played outside with the neighbor children until dark, and there wasn’t so much violence in our everyday lives.

Marshall Boyd, Innovation and Technology Department

Marshall Boyd

The individual who nominated Marshall wrote:

“Marshall completely helped save the day! Our office experienced a major technical difficulty in producing marriage licenses. We were unable to issue any licenses... which is a big deal being that it is prime marriage license season. We had a couple in our office that was applying for their license. Their wedding was scheduled for later that evening. Without a marriage license state law does not allow for a couple to legally get married. During the processing our technician noticed a major error with the program. After calling the help desk and learning Marshall was in a meeting we started to panic. However, Marshall contacted our office immediately and began to work on remedying the problem. Within a short period of time, he fixed all the problems with the program. We really appreciated Marshall's quick response to our issue and prioritizing the need for our immediate assistance. Not only were we relieved to be able to serve our customer, the couple was extremely delighted to be able to get married. :) It is because of the amazing support of our IT department that we were able to ensure the customer got what they needed. Thank you Marshall for allowing us to interrupt your meeting and for taking care of us! We are truly grateful!”

Number of Years Employed by Ottawa County:

I have been employed 5 years at Ottawa County

The thing I like most about working for Ottawa County is:

I enjoy working with the different people and positions within Ottawa County. Everyone is very friendly even when there is an issue that I’m tasked with trying to fix. My favorite part is trying to make someone’s job easier. When a change is proposed to make something that is done repeatedly, every day, into an automated task, there is a genuine look of excitement.

The hardest thing I have ever done:

Going back to school while working full time as a retail manager (60+ hours a week) with a newborn.

You would be surprised to learn that:

I am an eagle scout.

If you could have dinner with anyone dead or alive, who would you pick and why?

My Grandfather on my father’s side. He passed away when my Dad was 16. I have heard stories about his life and would enjoy sharing a meal with him to learn more.

If you had to spend all of your vacations for the rest of your life in the same place, where would you go and why?

Where would I like to go? I have never been, but I think Alaska would be at the top of my list. I could spend my time hunting, fishing, camping to just get away from it all. But realistically, as a family, we enjoyed the Great Smoky Mountains. There was plenty to do for everybody, including camping and fishing, but also plenty of nearby towns and cities to enjoy as well.

If you could travel back in time to any certain era or event, when/where would you pick and why?

I have always thought it would be interesting to see what North America looked like before being settled.
