County & State Government Dashboard

Ottawa's January 2019 Ranking: 1 of 83 Counties

Note: This data is updated annually. See detailed unemployment rate data Ottawa County Source: Michigan Department of Technology, Management & Budget, Local Area Unemployment Statistics

Explanation of the Indicator

The unemployment rate reflects the number of unemployed residents as a percent of the labor force (total employed and unemployed residents). Residents are considered unemployed if they are not working but are actively seeking employment. The unemployment rate reflects the success of the economy in providing opportunities for residents to support themselves and their families.

Notes

In some cases, County-level data are not available from the same data source used by the State. In other cases, County-level data are not available for the same time frame used by the State. In these instances, data sources and time frames were selected that most closely match those of the State. Due to this difference, it must be noted that comparisons may not be completely equivalent in all cases. For this indicator, Michigan's data reflects seasonally adjusted unemployment rates. Ottawa's unemployment rate is not seasonally adjusted because seasonally adjusted rates are not available for counties. Michigan's data source is the U.S. Department of Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics. Ottawa County’s source is the Michigan Department of Technology, Management, and Budget, Local Area Unemployment Statistics. When this data was last updated in September August 2019, 2017 was the most recent data available for Michigan, and 2019 data was the most recent data available for Ottawa County. State of Michigan dashboard measures were last updated in December 2018 prior to the change in administration. Plans for future data updates from the new administration have not been communicated as of yet.
