Crisis
The standard for whether or not a mental health emergency exists when a "prudent layperson" would determine from the member's symptoms that crisis services are needed.

| Extended Observation Beds (or 23-Stay Units) are used to stabilize a mental health emergency when a person needs to be in the hospital for only a short time.
