Will there be a cost for the H1N1 vaccine?

Private physician offices who are participating in the vaccine program will receive the vaccine for no cost. They may choose to charge a fee to cover the cost of the staff time it takes to provide the vaccine and complete the required records. Health insurance often covers these fees, however plans vary. Individuals should check with their insurance provider directly. Residents who have no health insurance can receive the vaccine at public clinics which will be announced at a later date. No resident will be denied the H1N1 vaccine because of an inability to pay.

How many doses of the vaccine will be needed?

Those ages nine and younger will need two doses of vaccine approximately four weeks apart. Persons age 10 and older will need only one dose.

I already received the seasonal flu shot. How long should I wait before I get an H1N1 flu vaccine?

Since you received the seasonal flu shot, there is no need to wait before you can receive the H1N1 flu shot or nasal mist.

I already received the seasonal flu nasal mist? How long should I wait before I get an H1N1 vaccine?

Since you received the seasonal flu mist, you can get the H1N1 shot without any wait OR you must wait 28 days before receiving the H1N1 mist.

Can I get the H1N1 and Seasonal flu vaccine on the same day?

If you provider offers both, you can get both shots OR one mist and one shot on the same day. You cannot get both the seasonal and H1N1 mists on the same day.

Can the seasonal vaccine and the novel H1N1 vaccine be given at the same time?

Seasonal flu and H1N1 vaccines may be administered on the same day, under certain conditions. Inactivated (dead) 2009 H1N1 vaccine can be administered at the same visit as any other vaccine, including pneumococcal polysaccharide vaccine. Live 2009 H1N1 vaccine can be administered at the same visit as any other live or inactivated vaccine EXCEPT seasonal live attenuated influenza vaccine.
