Michigan Works! Unemployed AdultsUnemployed Adults

Michigan Works offers many resources for adults who have found themselves unemployed.

The service center at 121 Clover Street in Holland offers employment-related classes and workshops. The schedules for these can be found on the Calendar page of this site. Workshops include Resume Writing, Steps to Success and Interviewing as well as others.

The service center also offers GED (General Education Degree) certification, ESL (English As A Second Language) classes, WorkKeys training and testing, and career assessment.

This site also offers a portal of employment-related sites for help in your job search.

Some adults will qualify for programs such as No Worker Left Behind, Trade Adjustment Assistance and others, which will allow them to take advantage of state-sponsored training opportunities. Staff at Michigan Works! will assist any adult to see if they are qualified for these and other programs.

Michigan Works! maintains very close ties with local centers of education such as Grand Valley State University, Muskegon Community College, Grand Rapids Community College and others. This partnership allow Michigan Works! to suggest the best training courses in each facility that best fits the employment seeker’s needs.

Anyone, even those who are currently employed can visit the service center to use its computers, fax and copier (as long as it’s employment-related). See the Working Adults page.

What To Expect If You Want To Qualify For Unemployment

Individuals who visit Michigan Works to qualify for unemployment must bring a copy of their resume with them. Staff will assist in posting the resume online on the Michigan Talent Bank. The Michigan Talent Bank is hosted by the State of Michigan for Michigan businesses and citizens to post open positions and seek employment.
