Michigan Works!

Bob Soeters Workforce Development Board

Bob Soeters

Private Sector Business Representative
Board Member since December 13, 2005

Bob Soeters has been the Treasurer for Disher Design & Development for 5 years.

He has a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Michigan and has completed post-graduate studies at the University of Toledo and Davenport University.

Bob has served as a Sunday School teacher and usher for Lakeland Community Church and a softball, T-ball and soccer coach for Zeeland Recreation Department. He is currently on the Advisory Board of Disher Design & Development and volunteers for Degage Ministries.

The most important thing that Bob has learned in his professional career is that making a positive difference needs to be an integral part of a career, as well as all daily interactions with others. This can happen by helping develop other teammates, helping business partners such as customers and suppliers, and helping others who are less fortunate. As a Christian, it is important to Bob to treat others with dignity and respect. This is a critical element in a professional career.

Globalization is the biggest change in Bob’s industry. As explained in "The World is Flat", by Thomas Friedman, the world has shrunk dramatically. Globalization has truly made the world flat from a business and competition standpoint. Competition comes from anywhere in the world faster and more dramatically than in the past.

The biggest challenge in Bob’s industry has been keeping US companies competitive using US people and innovation.
