Department Overview
The basic function of Ottawa County MSU Extension is to disseminate and encourage the application of research-generated knowledge and leadership techniques to individuals, families, youth and communities. Extension responds to local needs through a unique partnership of county, state, and federal resources. Information is extended to all Ottawa County residents through MSU's non-formal education systems, which assist people to make better decisions about issues that affect their lives.
MSU Extension offers educational programs in the following general program areas:
Agriculture and Agribusiness – Supporting Michigan’s second largest industry is key to a brighter future. Activities in this arena will emphasize increasing agricultural producers’ success, supporting food safety, reaching new markets and advancing agriculture through applied research.
Greening Michigan – Moving toward a sustainable future for our state will require leveraging existing networks of community and economic development leaders, entrepreneurs and visionaries. They’ll engage new partnerships to focus on initiatives around responsibly managing Michigan’s rich natural and human resources.
Health & Nutrition – Increasing Michigan’s productivity and reducing healthcare costs and will give Michigan residents the tools they need to embrace healthy living. A healthy population is also a sound financial investment in the future.
Children & Youth – Ensuring a productive workforce means preparing today’s young people to be tomorrow’s leaders, entrepreneurs, educators, mentors and skilled employees. Youth programs are empowering youngsters to expand their horizons and lay the foundation for lifetime success.

MSU Extension bulletins as well as many publications from the USDA and various governmental agencies and educational resources are available.
Ottawa County Plat Books are produced by the Ottawa County Geographic Information Systems Department. A portion of the proceeds from each plat book goes to Ottawa County 4-H. Plat books are available at the Ottawa IT/GIS Department for $25.00. Click here for instructions on ordering a plat book.
