No-Cigs for our Kids
The No Cigs for Our Kids Campaign is a multi-county campaign partnership with Allegan, Berrien, Muskegon and Ottawa Counties to reduce youth access to tobacco at area retailers. Components of then campaign include regular law enforcement tobacco compliance checks along with vendor education to retailers who want to avoid selling tobacco products to minors.
Smoke-Free Indoor Air Regulation
In January 2008, Ottawa County adopted a workplace smoke-free indoor air regulation. Below you will find all the information about the local regulation, tools to ensure your compliance, plus a link to the Michigan Smoke-Free Air Law. The
state law took effect on May 1, 2010 and includes restaurants and
bars as locations where smoking is not allowed. The Ottawa County regulation will also remain in effect. The county regulation adds the prohibition of smoking within 25 feet of any non-food public or private establishment entrance, operable window and ventilation system intake and in business vehicles. (This 25 foot perimeter does not apply to restaurants or bars.) Free "no smoking" decals are available at the Health Department offices while supplies last. For further information, call the Smoke-Free Regulation Coordinator at the Ottawa County Heath Department at (616) 393-5774.
