Celebration of Law Day 2017

A series of events will celebrate the Law in Ottawa County, as courts and bar associations throughout the nation reflect and celebrate American democracy and its legal system.

Schedule of Events

Thursday, April 27, 11:30-11:45am

  • What: William J. Van Regenmorter Memory Garden Ground Breaking Ceremony
  • Where: Ottawa County Courthouse lawn, 414 Washington, Grand Haven
  • Why: This project commemorates the late senator and his tireless advocacy for crime victims. The garden will be completed later this summer.

Friday, April 28, 4:30-6:30PM

  • What: “Fuel Up for Katty Shack” Pasta Dinner & Packet Pick-Up
  • Where: St. Patrick & St. Anthony Family Center, 920 Fulton Street, Grand Haven
  • Why: Give your home "kitchen staff" the night off and enjoy a delicious meal provided by Two Tonys Taverna Grille. The entire community is invited to join the fun. There will be an auction, music, and door prizes! All proceeds benefit The Crime Victim Foundation. You can also register for the Katty Shack 5K Race/Walk at the dinner to further support victims of crime.
  • How:Tickets: $10, Ages 12 & under $7. Prepurchasing your tickets is strongly encouraged. You can purchase them when you register for the Katty Shack Run/Walk event or email Joan Grillo to reserve your tickets.

Saturday, April 29, 9AM start.

  • What: Katty Shack 5K Race/Walk and 1K Run/Walk
  • Where: Corner of Taylor and Wisconsin, Grand Haven
  • Why: Participants receive a sense of accomplishment, a t-shirt, shoe laces at the finish line, a pancake breakfast following the event. Awards and prizes will be presented overall and by age group. All proceeds benefit The Crime Victim Foundation
  • How: There is still time to register! The cost is $25 until April 27th. In person at the pasta dinner or the day of the run the price increases to $30.

Tuesday, May 2, 12–1PM

  • What: Addiction & Recovery 101: Addiction, Treatment, and Recovery Learning Lunch
  • Where: Ottawa County Courthouse, Jury Assembly Room, 414 Washington, Grand Haven
  • Why: This presentation will discuss addiction, treatment options, and recovery. Presenting will be staff from Ottawa County's Nationally Recognized Adult Drug Treatment Court and partners from Ottawa County Community Mental Health.

Tuesday, May 2, 7–8:30PM

  • What: Addiction & Recovery 101: Addiction, Treatment, and Recovery
  • Where: First Presbyterian Church, 508 Franklin, Grand Haven
  • Why: This presentation will discuss addiction, treatment options, and recovery. Presenting will be staff from Ottawa County's Nationally Recognized Adult Drug Treatment Court and partners from Ottawa County Community Mental Health and heartfelt stories from persons in recovery.

Thursday, May 4, 9AM–12PM

  • What: Mock Trial: People v. Stover Presented by Corpus Christi Catholic School
  • Where: Ottawa County Courthouse, Courtroom 3B, Grand Haven
  • Why: Experiential learning increased understanding through doing. Students from Corpus Christi Catholic School will not only fill the courtroom audience, but youth will act as judge, jury members, plaintiff, defendant, witnesses and attorneys in a case that examines the 14th Amendment of the United States Constitution.
