Outstanding Customer Service Awards

Second Quarter 2014 Award Recipient

Join us in congratulating Amanda Echler from the Ottawa County Department of Public Health, who has been recognized as Ottawa County’s Outstanding Customer Service Award recipient of the second quarter of 2014.

The individuals who nominated Amanda wrote:

"She is very friendly and takes the time to explain the process, not just write things down with no explanation at the time. Will listen to why you do things and reasoning behind it. You feel that you can talk to her and she is listening. Very professional. She has also taught my staff with one of the classes on food safety. Good job!."

"She is someone you look forward to coming because she is friendly and she check every nook and cranny and if she find things wrong she explains how to correct them. She answers any question or concerns we have."

"Amanda is always very friendly when completing our inspections. She communicates well what needs to be done if there is something that requires attention."

"Amanda Echler was very professional in her inspection. She clearly explained each violation."

"I would like to nominate Amanda Echler for doing an outstanding job. I have only been in business for about a year and half and she has helped me so much. I have never felt threatened when she walks into my facility. In fact I am relieved, because then I know if I am doing everything correctly. She answers any questions I may have and is always very helpful. I take my business very seriously and would feel just horrible if one of my customers got ill because I was not doing something properly. The previous inspector was not this way, she was very threatening and would purposely ask you trick questions, so you would answer them wrong so she could put this in the report. Several other business owners in the area did not care for her either. It was like she was on this power trip and she was not there to help your business, she was there to hurt your business. This is not what the health department is here for, it is suppose to help you. Because of previous employees, this is why so many people did not care for the Health Department. I am glad to see that you are hiring people and conducting this service for what it is intended to be for. Amanda, has turned this service around for the good and I thank her."

Number of Years Employed by Ottawa County:

2 Years

The thing that I like most about working for Ottawa County is:

My favorite part about working for Ottawa County is how much the administration really cares about the county employees and not only do they Talk-the-Talk, but they also Walk-the-Walk.

The hardest thing I have ever done:

The most exciting and hardest thing I have ever done was changing careers from working in hospital laboratory after 7 years to working in public health. I had to work my butt off to switch careers, but it has been the best decision I have ever made.

You would be surprised to learn that:

I, out of all these amazing customer service oriented people at Ottawa County, won the customer service award.

If you could have dinner with anyone dead or alive, who would you pick and why?

I would want to have dinner with my Great Grandpa Beaverson (Born 1901, Died 1995) and Grandpa Megyesi. They meant the world to me and I would love to have picked their brains about life. I was young when they died. It would be amazing to have even a small portion of the knowledge and wisdom they carried.

If you had to spend all of your vacations for the rest of your life in the same place, where would you go?

I don't know. I haven't been to many places. Somewhere that has a different culture, great food, cheap, and is slower paced. (Did I mention unplugged from electronics too?)

If you could travel back in time to any certain era or event, when/where would you pick and why?

I would travel back to the ancient Egypt. This is one of the few times in history that women were mostly equal to men. Also, they had many accomplishment that we still have difficulty understanding today.
