Behind every great event is an even greater army of volunteers. We will need help doling out water, others manning the refreshments, and even folks willing to do some heavy lifting on Friday night. All ages are welcome, but we do ask that young people are accompanied by an adult. If your child can stand by your side and pass out water for three hours, then we are happy to have you! Runners love seeing kids along the course. Contact Shannon if you are interested in volunteering, or register here.
Is there a course time limit?
Out of respect to our volunteers, any runner coming in after 3 hours and 20 minutes will not be scored. This is about a 14 minute per mile pace. Additionally, race support may not be available, such as water stations and refreshments We have to set a time limit in order to reopen the road.
What if I am injured or cannot finish?
Anyone injured or fearing they cannot finish the race should contact an aid station volunteer or course marshal who will arrange transportation.
Can I bring dogs or strollers?
Spectators are welcome to bring strollers and pets on leash. Four-milers may have run with a pet or stroller. You MUST clean up after your pet and they may not be off-leash per Connor Bayou County Park rules.
Will the race be timed?
Yes! And it will be chip timed! We are asking participants to line up by pace. Lining up by pace will keep everyone safe and happy.
Will there be awards?
We haven’t determined that yet. It depends upon the prizes we can secure. Likely, awards will be presented to the overall male, overall female, masters (40+) male, masters (40+) female plus top finishers in each age group. Age groups will be 18-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, and 70+.
Will there be finisher medals?
Yes. Finishers of the 23.1k will earn a medal. If you cannot run, you are welcome to pick-up your shirt at packet pick-up. All registrants will receive a shirt.
Can a friend pick-up my packet?
Where can I park?
PARKING IS LIMITED. PLEASE CARPOOL. (The Parks Department asked us to yell!) There are about 100 places to park at Connor Bayou, Fifty-some are “real” parking spaces. The other 50 will be along the edge of the driveway on the west side only. (Runners will be trekking along the east edge of the driveway.) Then there is some space to park along the North Cedar Drive west of the park entrance. There will be attendants. Again, we yell, CARPOOL.
I registered but can no longer race? Can I get a refund?
We are certainly sad that you cannot join us. We do not offer refunds but you can gift your bib to another through August 31. There is no fee to gift your bib. Whether you decide to charge your buddy for your bib is up to you. If you make a profit, we wish you many blisters.
I cannot run. Can I still get my shirt?
Yes. Any shirts and packets not picked up by the end of packet pick-up on race day will be forfeited
I cannot run. Can I still get my medal?
No. no. NO! It’s a finisher medal.
I did not finish. Can I still get my medal?
No. Sorry. See you next year, healed and ready to go at it again for redemption!
Where will results be posted?
We will post them at a location near the finish line on race day and on the timing company website. They will also be posted as soon as possible on the Ottawa County Facebook Page, and then on the miOttawa.org website Monday morning.
Will there be traffic on M231?

Sponsor the Run
Yes, we do need sponsors. We understand that every dollar your company has is hard earned, so when you agree to sponsor us we intend to 1- get you noticed and 2-place as much funding in the hands of the beneficiary as possible. While many opportunities exist to support the exponentially growing running race scene, it’s not often that a major highway is shut down for foot traffic. It’s a pretty big deal. This event always captures the media attention. Make sure your name is on it! Donations are tax deductible and funds raised go to Ottawa County’s non-motorized pathway system benefiting residents and visitors alike. When your name is on the event as a sponsor, you can also be sure we offer a high-quality event. At the same time, we keep the race coordination costs low and accessible to all income levels by using partnerships, in-kind services, and a lot of volunteers. There is no paid event staff, so you can be certain that none of your donation pays wages. Because we will need to begin production, sponsorship commitments must be received by September 1 to be included on the race apparel. Check out the Sponsor Form.
Beneficiary of the Proceeds
The M23.1k Run raises funds for Ottawa County’s non-motorized pathway system including the Grand River Explorers Trail Funding from 2015 and 2016 helped build the Spoonville Trail. (This trail connects to the M231 Henry Plant Bridge which runners traverse during this event!) An extensive system of paved trails benefits residents and visitors alike. Paved trails through Ottawa County provide opportunities for fitness and family recreation; environmental benefits; transportation corridors; and economic benefits to the community. Contributions are tax deductible under section 170(c)(1) of the Internal Revenue Service. So far, the run raised over $17,000 to contribute to Ottawa County’s non-motorized pathway systems!
