231 River Run
Register Now for the fourth annual run across M231 hosted by Ottawa County. The race is being renamed the 231 River Run. Less of the run will be on M231 and more will be on the Idema Explorer’s Trail and the Spoonville Trail. In fact, if you have run this event before, you’ll be pounding the pavement on the very paths you helped complete. We think THIS is pretty cool! Two distances will be available: 10k and 4 mile. As in previous years, proceeds from the run go toward paved trails and bike paths in the West Michigan area. (There are plenty of miles yet to be paved.)
Runners can choose from a 10k run or a 4 mile event. The cost increases progressively until race day. Register by September 30 to ensure your shirt size and personalized bib! All runners will receive a long sleeve tech shirt. Awards and a finish line party will complete your memorable day. Be sure to purchase your post-race lunch tickets for yourself and fans when you register.

The run raises funds for Ottawa County’s non-motorized pathway system including the Grand River Explorers Trail. Funding from 2015, 2016, and 2017 helped build the Spoonville Trail. An extensive system of paved trails benefits residents and visitors alike. Paved trails through Ottawa County provide opportunities for fitness and family recreation; environmental benefits; transportation corridors; and economic benefits to the community. Contributions are tax-deductible under section 170(c)(1) of the Internal Revenue Service. So far, the run has raised over $24,000 to contribute to Ottawa County’s non-motorized pathway systems!

Course Info: Runners will begin at Connor Bayou; run the Idema Explorer’s Trail to the Spoonville Trail; Cross over the Grand River on the M231 Bridge and retrace back to the start. The 10K runners will continue on the Spoonville Trail; going under (yes UNDER!) the bridge through the country-side to Leonard Road. From there they will retrace back to the start. Check out the map.

Awards will be given out at the post-race party. Runners age 21+ will get one free Grand Armory Brewing beverage. Kids registered will not receive a beer ticket. Valid ID required. Purchase lunch tickets when you register.
Behind every great event is an even greater army of volunteers. We will need help directing runners on the course, doling out water, manning the finish line refreshments, serving lunch, and even folks willing to do some heavy lifting on Friday night. All ages are welcome, but we do ask that young people are accompanied by an adult. If your child can stand by your side and pass out water for an hour or two, then we are happy to have you! All the Details
Dogs & babies: Yes and yes. We love dogs and babies! Runners may run either event with a stroller or pet on-leash. If you want to push a stroller 10k, you GO! Hey—we’ll even gift your kiddo or pup a personalized unchipped bib if you contact us with their name by October 10. What we don’t like: stepping in poo poo. Do you? Plus dog waste isn’t great at making the park wildlife feel at home. You MUST clean up after your pet (and baby, for that matter) and Fido must be on-leash per Connor Bayou County Park rules and common courtesy.
Timing: The runs will be chip timed. Please line up by pace. Lining up by pace will keep everyone safe and happy.
Awards: Awards will be presented to the overall male, overall female, masters (40+) male, masters (40+) female plus top finishers in each age group. Age groups will be as follows: under 18, 18-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, and 70+ in each gender. Oh just stop complaining about the age group span. It’s a smaller field.
Swag:There will be awesome shirts and finisher medals. If you cannot run you can still pick-up your shirt at packet pick-up. Any shirts not picked up by the end of packet pick-up on race day will be forfeited.
Parking: PARKING IS LIMITED. PLEASE CARPOOL. (The Parks Department asked us to yell!) There are about 100 places to park at Connor Bayou, Fifty-some are “real” parking spaces. The others will be along the edges of the driveway. Then there is some space to park along the North Cedar Drive. Remember, walking from your parking location is your warm-up. Be cautious of pedestrians when you are driving; unless they look like they are in your age group. KIDDING!
Refunds: We are certainly sad that you cannot join us. We do not offer refunds but you can gift your bib to another through September 28. There is no fee to gift your bib. Whether you decide to charge your buddy for your bib is up to you. If you make a profit, we wish you many blisters.
Results on Race Day: We will post them at a location near the finish line on race day and on the timing company website. They will also be posted as soon as possible on the Ottawa County Facebook Page, and then on the miOttawa.org website Monday morning.
Course time limit: Out of respect for our volunteers, any runner coming in after 100 minutes will not be scored. This is about a 16 minute per mile pace. Additionally, race support may not be available, such as water stations.
Injured or cannot finish: Anyone injured or fearing they cannot finish the race should contact an aid station volunteer or course marshal. They will contact race headquarters and arrange transportation.

Yes, we do need sponsors. We understand that every dollar your company has is hard earned, so when you agree to sponsor us we intend to 1- get you noticed and 2-place as much funding in the hands of the beneficiary as possible. Donations are tax-deductible and funds raised go to Ottawa County’s non-motorized pathway system benefiting residents and visitors alike. When your name is on the event as a sponsor, you can also be sure we offer a high-quality event. At the same time, we keep the race coordination costs low and accessible to all income levels by using partnerships, in-kind services, and a lot of volunteers. There is no paid event staff, so you can be certain that none of your donation pays wages.
