Winter Waterfowl Field Trip

Bird Pigeon Lake and the Lake Michigan Shoreline in search of the waterfowl of winter. Finish off at lunch time by viewing birds at the Hemlock Crossing Nature Center feeders.

Don't forget to sign up for the "Birding the Barrens" Birding Field Trip on the same date at 2pm-5pm!

Fee Required. Additional information and meeting location will be emailed to participants prior to the trip.

Birding the Barrens Field Trip

After watching the feeders for a while, trek the snowy open farmland "barrens" of central Ottawa County in search of winter bird specialties.

Don't forget to sign up for the Winter Waterfowl Birding Field Trip on the same date at 10am-1pm!

Skate Ski Class

For experienced adult skiers who want to learn the basics of several skate techniques. Skate skis are required, and a limited number are available to rent in the Lodge.

Participants must provide equipment. Rental available but not guaranteed.

Homeschool EARLY Explorers - Who's Track is That?

Are you looking to get your home-schooled students ages 5 - 10 engaged with nature and exploring outside? Then this program is for you! Each program is modeled after our Wildlife Encounter series of programs and includes an indoor classroom program followed by an time of exploration outdoors that is directly tied to the classroom learning.

Children 6 and younger must be accompanied by an adult.

Who's Track is That?

Winter snow is like a blank sheet of paper. Learn what creatures are lurking in the woods by studying their tracks and how different animals move in different ways. After an indoor presentation, we?ll go on a hike outside in search of tracks in the snow and we?ll make a few of our own on the way! If snow conditions allow, we?ll use snowshoes!

Miss Jessi invites Tots age 0-3 years, along with a caregiver, to explore our natural world with various books, music and movement, age appropriate activities, and of course, a group walk along a stroller and wagon friendly path. The Color of Winter

Use your artist eyes to see the wide spectrum of colors displayed in a winter landscape:

the tawny browns of oak leaves clinging to the trees; the crisp green of the wintergreen

ground cover, peeking through the snow; and the scarlet red of winter berries.

Participants will be guided through the painting process to create a 16" x 20" painting.

Registration required, $25/person; ages 12+ (materials provided)

Keep It Active Winter Walk

These weekend winter walks will encourage you to stay active during the cold months of winter. Join a parks naturalist for a one-hour leisurely walk. If snow conditions allow, snowshoes will be available to rent for $6 a pair (or bring your own!)
